About the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a Federal Government funded program to provide support to Australians living with a permanent disability. About the NDIA

Participants have three options to manage their NDIS funding – self-managed, plan-managed and NDIA-managed, or a combination of these. NDIA-managed can also be referred to as Agency-managed (The NDIA is the National Disability Insurance Agency responsible for implementing and managing the NDIS).

Self-managed participants have control and responsibility for managing their NDIS funds. They can choose to work with both registered and unregistered providers and are not restricted by NDIS price limits. With this flexibility comes additional responsibility, including handling administrative tasks such as paying Service Providers, keeping accurate budget records, and submitting claims directly through the NDIS portal.

The NDIA will provide additional funding in a plan to pay for a Plan Manager who pays service providers on your behalf, helps keep track of funds and takes care of financial reporting. Providers can be registered or unregistered, but must stay within NDIS price guide limits. Plan Managers are qualified accountants or bookkeepers, and act as a financial intermediary and knowledge base to guide Participants through maximising their funding to achieve their goals.

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) manages the payments and administration of NDIS plans for those that don’t have the time or ability to manage themselves. Under this option, only registered NDIS service providers can be used, and must adhere to the NDIS price guide limits.

Support coordination helps Participants understand how to use their NDIS plan to achieve their goals, connect with NDIS Service Providers, and coordinate supports. With many Participants to manage, staying organised and informed is essential.
